Interventional Cardiology

Because cardiology is a complex field, many cardiologists focus on a particular area of heart care. An interventional cardiologist receives additional training in catheterizations and other minimally invasive procedures. These approaches can clear blocked arteries, correct congenital heart abnormalities and repair heart valves. With access to the latest devices, our interventional cardiologists diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, using less invasive methods to minimize pain, recovery time and complications.

Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab)

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Hendrick Medical Center provides advanced technology for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular conditions. With three cardiac cath labs and one electrophysiology lab, more than 2,400 interventional procedures are performed at Hendrick each year.

Cath Lab Testing/Procedures:

• Angiography – injection of dye to identify blockages through real-time X-rays

• Angioplasty – insertion of a balloon catheter to widen narrowed arteries

• Coronary or Peripheral Atherectomy – removal of plaque from a heart or leg artery

• Carotid or Coronary Stenting – placement of small mesh tube to open blocked arteries

Electrophysiology (EP) Lab Testing/Procedures:

Our Electrophysiology Lab specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of electrical conduction issues in the heart.

• Evaluation of Syncope (fainting)

• Cardiac Ablation

• Implanted Cardioverter Defibrillators Placement

• Pacemaker Placement/Management

• Cardiac Resynchronization Device Placement
